FAQ
How often should I water my terrarium?
The watering frequency for your mini garden depends on the type of terrarium and the plants inside.
Your terrarium is strong, independent and empowered and as such should be self sufficient for a few months without watering.
Monitor the soil's moisture level by looking at the colour of the soil, dark means it is moist, greyish colour means it’s parched. You can also observe the amount of condensation forming on the glass to asses the level of humidity.
I have small flying bugs in my terrarium …
No one like a party crasher! If you notice small flying bugs inside your closed terrarium they most likely are Fungus Gnats.
Gnats are flies that live in the soil, thrive in humid condition and feed on plant roots.
In single numbers they are not harmful and may die off in a couple of weeks.
A way to control Gnats from multiplying inside a terrarium is to use a sticky gnat trap.
The sticky tape will catch the adult flies, preventing them from laying more eggs.
Reach in to your terrarium, if possible, to try catch the adult Gnats. The sooner you get rid of them the better.
Can I keep different plant species together in the same terrarium?
Before playing plant matchmaker ensure the plants you choose have similar care requirements, including light, humidity, and watering needs. That is a key for happy plants in a small eco system.
What are the best locations for placing my terrarium at home?
Most importantly don’t be shady! choose a position with indirect sunlight or filtered light and avoid placing them near heating or cooling. Terrarium are best displayed either in eye level position or on coffee or dining table height where they can be best viewed and their mini landscape enjoyed.
How do I prevent mold and fungus growth in my terrarium?

Do terrariums require any special light conditions?
Let it shine and sparkle. Most terrarium plants thrive in bright, indirect light.
Avoid placing your terrarium in direct sunlight, as it can lead to overheating and damage the plants. A dark position will also not be good as the live plants need sufficient light to grow.
If the light comes from a single direction source make sure to rotate your terrarium regularly so the plants won’t grow side ways.
Should my terrarium be open or closed?
Whatever relationship path you are thinking of taking, it firstly depends on the type of plants. Closed terrariums are more often used with tropical plants and live moss, both require a constant level of humidity. Open terrariums offer better ventilation and are used with cacti and succulents. this terrariums usually require more regular watering.
How often should I fertilize my terrarium plants?
Cancel the fiesta and step away from the buffet, terrarium plants generally require less frequent fertilization due to the limited space. A very diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer applied once every few months during the growing season should be sufficient.
What type of water should I use for watering my terrarium?
H2O is the go! Tap water is usually fine to use. You can let it sit for a day before watering to allow the chlorine to dissipate. If you have particularly hard water, using filtered or distilled water may be beneficial.
What are some signs that my terrarium plants may be unhappy?
